Hold onto your hats, Star Wars fans, because Entertainment Weekly just dropped a bombshell: With Disney announcing plans to create a number of spin-off movies in the Star Wars franchise, sources have suggested that beloved scoundrels Han Solo and Boba Fett will be getting their own movies.
A word of caution before you completely lose yourself in geek ecstasy: Neither Disney or LucasFilm have officially confirmed either prospective film, nor have they provided any comment on the them...yet. It's still extremely early in the process, so there should be an expectation that rumors will continue to flow.
But, while we still have our unconfirmed hopes and dreams before us, let's just talk about the awesomeness of the prospective plots.
The Han Solo movie would be an origin story of the infamous smuggler, and would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, so it's doubtful would be making an appearance in the spin-off (Then again, stranger things have happened and who knows what is possible).
Boba Fett's film would take place at a slightly later time, either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between the latter and Return of the Jedi (where we last lost our intrepid bounty hunter falling into the mouth of a Sarlacc). Casting him would not be a huge problem, as he presumably never removes his helmet.
Setting the two spin-off movies in the time of the original trilogy means the door is open for an appearance, or multiple ones, of everyone's favorite Sith Lord, Darth Vader.
There is no indication as to who would direct these films but, as we said, it's still very, very early in the process, and there are many decisions to be made in the near future.
What do you think? Who should be cast as young Han Solo and Boba Fett? Let us know in the comments section below.
