When Carl Grimes has his eye dramatically shot out back in The Walking Dead Season 6, fans were horrified at what this might mean for the most badass teen in the apocalypse. However weeks later we learned that Carl is not just mentally resilient, but physically resilient as well, and while he didn't exactly escape unscathed, he's basically back on top form.
However since Carl's gruesome injury, the true extent of his injury has been kept firmly under wraps by his increasingly dirty bandage (even if Olivia is supposedly changing the dressings...). Well that is, the true extent was kept under wraps until this week!

After Carl sprung from the back of the Savior's truck and mowed down a few of #Negan's men with a semi-automatic weapon, I bet many of you imagined this was the end for the young Grimes. However instead Negan and Carl had a little chat, and it was in the middle of this that Carl's empty eye socket was finally revealed.
Unfortunately though, as gross as it was it was a very brief look at the inside of Mr Grimes' face, and to be honest, at first glance I thought it was packed with some sort of tartan material. But thankfully Carl himself, Chandler Riggs, has given us all a second look via Twitter, up close and personal with Carl's gruesome eye socket. Check it out:
The Walking Dead special effects makeup artists are the true modern masters of gore, and Carl/Chandler — you're intimidating dude with those injuries!
The Walking Dead returns with the mid-season finale, "Hearts Still beating" on December 11.
