Fire up those engines, Cars 3 speeds into theaters later this week — and we'll get a number of new #Pixar Easter Eggs for fans to spot. Ever since Pixar released its first movie, #ToyStory, back in 1995, they have been using Easter Eggs to connect their films, adding evidence to the popular Pixar Theory.
One popular callback that has been included in almost every Pixar film (except The Incredibles) is the Pizza Planet truck from Toy Story. Fear not, the truck will make his reappearance in Cars 3!
Cars 3 takes a darker turn, as Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) contemplates retirement after a dangerous crash. Feeling pushed out of racing by faster cars, Lightning goes on to train with Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo), a racing technician, in hopes of regaining his legendary status. In the recently released clip above, Lightning McQueen finds himself at a demolition derby where we meet Miss Fritter (Lea DeLaria), an intimidating schoolbus who crushes the derby scene.
In the clip we get a quick glimpse of the Pizza Planet truck, who seemingly is taking part in the derby:
This isn't the first time the pizza delivery truck has made an appearance alongside Lightning McQueen. The car was seen in the first Cars film, once in front of a Dinoco Gas Station — mirroring the scene from Toy Story — and again during the Los Angeles International Speedway as a spectator. The truck, referred to as Todd, can be seen multiple times in Cars 2, the most prominent instance being as a spectator alongside the track at the Radiator Springs Grand Prix.
Pixar fans will be happy to see the reappearance of one of Toy Story's most notable callbacks. One could hope that Todd the Pizza Planet truck will get more screentime in the upcoming installment. Let's be on the lookout for more fun Pixar Easter Eggs, as there will undoubtedly be a ton!
Cars 3 hits theaters June 16, 2017.
