CBS is moving forward with an adaptation of 's historical epic The Dovekeepers. The four-part miniseries is based on the true-life story of the Roman siege of Masada, Israel in 70 C.E., where after being forced from their homes by the Romans, 900 Jews retreat to a mountain fortress. There, they manage to hold the vast Roman army at bay for months.

The Dovekeepers tells the story of the siege from the perspective of four extraordinary woman who arrive alone but bond over their will to survive.

Said executive producer Roma Downey:

We are excited to get to turn this bestselling novel by Alice Hoffman into an epic miniseries that will be a major television event on CBS. This novel is a testament to the human spirit and how love can rise from the ashes of war. It is, quite simply, an amazing story of heroism and hope, and a story that must be seen not just with the eyes but felt with the heart.

The Dovekeepers is slated to arrive in 2015.
