We all know that Spidey is finally coming home (no pun intended) and at this point I think we are all sick of waiting and want to see his first standalone movie in the MCU. Unfortunately, it is not quite the summer of 2017 just yet, so we are left to speculate and get even more uncomfortably excited for this film.
Well, as long as everyone else is still speculating and looking forward, I might as well join in. There is already a slew of great characters billed for Spider-Man: Homecoming, but there are also a great deal of beloved characters that are being left out. With so many great overlooked characters, I have been given the power to assemble a list of five of them that Spidey fans want to see. And we all know, with great power — you get it.
Here is my list of five characters we want to see in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
5. Norman Osborn
I know, we’ve seen him in Spidey films before; there is a reason for that though. It’s the same reason that we’ve seen The Joker in a bunch of Batman movies, or Magneto in a bunch of X-Men films. These villains are so important to the story of our favorite heroes that they simply can’t be left out. Osborn is such an integral part of Spider-Man’s story and is easily his most hated nemesis. Not mentioning him would be like not mentioning Lex Luthor in a Superman movie.
I’m not saying we need to see a new Norman Osborn on screen. A simple reference will do. Maybe seeing the Oscorp building or a truck or advertisement with the Oscorp logo on it will get the job done.
4. Felicia Hardy
One interesting thing about Spider-Man has always been his myriad of love interests. While Hardy is one on a long list, she is far from your typical love interest. Perhaps she is more recognizable under her alter-ego: Black Cat. While Hardy is very much an antihero, she is constantly intertwined with Spidey’s story in more ways than one.
I doubt we'll actually see the Black Cat in this movie, but it seems very possible that we see Hardy or get some sort of mention of her name at the very least.
3. Eddie Brock
I’m breaking out the big guns. Everyone wants to see Venom done some justice on the big screen ever since, well, ever since whatever you call that thing in Spider-Man 3. Venom is not only one of Spidey’s most well known villains, he is one of the most popular Marvel characters of all time. It’s about time we see this character done right.
I would say there is almost no chance we see Venom in Homecoming though. It is possible we see Brock working for The Daily Bugle, or perhaps see his name on a newspaper, but it is highly unlikely that we see the symbiote.
2. Cletus Kasady
Speaking of symbiotes, fans have wanted to see Carnage just as much as Venom, and with good reason. Carnage is a fascinatingly complex character that is as murderous as he is unpredictable. The offspring of the Venom symbiote, Carnage is the result of an alien being attaching itself to a dangerous serial killer. Sounds like the type that Spidey would normally tussle with.
Again, highly unlikely that we see the symbiote in this movie. I also don’t think we will see Kasady at all. It is far more likely that we would get a subtle hint at his existence. To tie him in with Venom, it would be pretty cool to see a newspaper with a story on Kasady that has a photo credit to Eddie Brock.
1. J. Jonah Jameson
Finally we get to a real heavy hitter! Jameson is hugely important to Spider-Man stories. He personifies the responsibility that Spidey has to protect even those who dislike him. Not to mention, he’s pretty much Peter Parker’s only source of income. He also provides the comedy that we know Marvel loves to use in their movies (yes, I know this is still technically a Sony movie).
This is the one character on the list that I will say I think we should see in all his glory. I know it’s going to be hard for anyone to follow up the performance of J.K. Simmons, but someone has to try. We need more J.J.J.!
There is a whole host of great characters from the Spidey comics that we want to see join the MCU. For a lot of them, I think it is just a matter of time.
Which character would you most like to see at least mentioned in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'?
More importantly, how is Spider-Man going to save the day in this movie? He's already proved himself a multitude of times in the movies before:
