There is something remarkable about a work of fantasy having a tremendously positive impact on the real world. To wit, by far this year's biggest fantasy film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the feature of an upcoming charity screening.

On December 13th, the Embassy Theater in Wellington New Zealand is hosting a charity screening of 's latest Hobbit outing. Portions of each ticket sold will benefit Life Flight, which seeks to provide airlifting emergency services whenever and wherever needed. This screening will be followed by a special Q&A with The Hobbit's Senior Visual Effects Supervisor Joe Letteri and (Bilfur the Dwarf) will also be in attendance.

Full details can be found at TheOneRing.Net, but suffice to say, this is a very good cause. My only problem with this screening is that less than one-third of each $30 ticket sold will be donated to Life Flight. Somebody's taking too big a cut that should also be going to charity.

Still, if you live in Wellington, consider attending and helping out this worthy cause.
