After for years failing to get his mad big screen musical Frank and Francis made, Being John Malkovich mastermind Charlie Kaufman is basically saying "screw this" and crossing over to television.

The Academy Award winning writer will direct the FX pilot How and Why based, of course, on a screenplay by himself.

Unsurprisingly the project sounds very much like a Charlie Kaufman project. It centers on the host of the kids’ television science show How and Why who, after getting fired, decides to start anew in the middle of nowhere. There, he encounters the supernatural world.

With an eccentric genius (or something along those lines) behind the camera How and Why, of course, attracted some serious talent in front of the lens, namely Academy Award nominee (Winter’s Bone) and in a rare non-Arrested Development TV gig.
