Following the recent success of the History Channel's three-part miniseries Hatfields and McCoys, starring and , NBC will try and replicate that success after giving a pilot order to the identically titled but relocated to the modern-day Hatfields and McCoys. is set to produce the take on the notorious US Civil War-era family feud set in present day Pittsburgh.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Theron will be producing the script from . A startling death re-ignites the feud between these two legendary families, unleashing decades of resentment, as the blue collar McCoys will put the Hatfields' wealth and power at risk as they go to war for control of the city.
NBC began working with Theron and Glenn on the new project a week after History Channel's Hatfields and McCoys, which premiered last May, was a commercial and critical smash. The miniseries averaged a record-breaking 14 million viewers over three nights, and earned Costner an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Screen Actor's Guild award for his portrayal of 'Devil' Anse Hatfield.
