I'm a good bowler, and a good man.

This December there will be two Hobbit's battling for your attention. There's Peter Jackson's 2nd entry in his high-budget three-part adaptation, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and this fan-made animated adaptation of the book, by Dutchman Johan Zanderbergen.

Okay, they are hardly equal rivals. It's David vs Goliath x123456789. But fan-made stuff can sometimes knock it out of the park, even when there is minimal cash splashing about.

And Zanderbergen's animation, revealed to us all by fansite Tolkein Brazil, looks like it could be fun. Reportedly, "the script is very faithful to the books and presents the childish tone that Tolkien’s work expresses, without losing the air of Middle-earth and seriousness of the mission of the dwarves.” And the teaser looks like that, presenting a brief history of what happened prior to Smaug displacing Thror's Dwarves in the Lonely Mountain.

Check it out below, as well as some artwork of Dwarf Fili.

How does everybody feel? Looks like good supplementary entertainment for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug this December right?
