Formula One fans have gotten used to the sight of director showing up at F1 races for the past few years, even being interviewed from time to time. What's the reason for him suddenly taking an interest in fast cars and Grand Prix? It's for Rush, his racing drama based on the true story of Formula One racers James Hunt (, who seems to be at home wearing blonde wigs) and Niki Lauda () and their fierce rivalry of the 70s.

The movie is mainly set after Lauda's near-fatal 1976 crash, as his rivalry with Hunt intensifies leading up to the World Championship showdown in Shizuoka, Japan.

With Howard at the helm, screenwriter (Frost/Nixon, The Queen) behind the pages, and a fall opening, this movie appears poised to take home some awards season hardware.
