Ever since announced that he was not returning to direct Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, the hunt (no pun intended) has been on for his replacement. The shoes to be filled were considerable given how excellent was Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. A few months ago it was speculated that (Jack Reacher) would be co-writing the next installment of the franchise along with Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3). That appeared to be confirmed by one of McQuarrie's own tweets...

But what of the other rumor, the one that suggested McQuarrie would also be directing M:I 5? Was it simply the mission to pen the film that he had accepted, or was this a veiled confirmation of his also sliding behind the camera for the next movie? Well thanks to another Twitter account, that of , we have total confirmation...

I enjoyed the hell out of Jack Reacher and I think McQuarrie is a solid choice for Mission: Impossible 5. I would have liked to have seen someone with a little more martial arts cinema experience, like The Raid's , as that is something I feel has been missing from the franchise. However, I can totally understand why the studio went with McQuarrie and he's more than suited for the task.

What do you guys think?
