Development on hasn't exactly been a quiet affair, as we already know several elements that are going to be part of it, such as Cable, Domino, and a potential bigger-scale story and the whole Tim Miller departing the director's chair thing. Despite that, however, there are still many things we don't know, like which characters from its predecessor will be returning.

Now, thanks to writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, we know two beloved sidekicks will be making their return to the big screen in 's latest adventure: The Moody Teen, a.k.a. Negasonic Teenage Warhead and - insert obscene Deadpool quote here - a.k.a. Colossus.

During an interview with Collider, Wernick and Reese were asked about the possible return of these two budget-friendly characters. Here's what they said:

PW: "I can’t say how much they are…"

RR: "I think we can say. Yeah, they'll be in the sequel."

PW: "Yeah, they'll make at least an appearance."

The chemistry between Deadpool, Colossus, and Negasonic was great, so it's very satisfying to know they'll be coming back. The question now is...

Will They Play Large Or Small Roles In 'Deadpool 2'?

It's clear from Wernick's comment that he doesn't want to reveal the extent of Colossus and Negasonic's role in the sequel, but what should we realistically expect?

Deadpool 2 will explore bigger-scale elements with Cable and the time-traveling shenanigans that come with him, so it's easy to see how the other two mutants could be sidelined to give more focus to the world-building Deadpool is expected to make as the new face of the X-Men franchise.

On the other hand, they were one of the most acclaimed aspects of Deadpool due to their incredible chemistry with the Merc with a Mouth. They held their own in the film despite having a guy in a red mask shouting inappropriate comments every five minutes.

Reducing their role in favor of a riskier, more common storyline in the comic book movie world could prove to be a bad move for the studio depending on how the storyline is handled.

But, like I mentioned above, Deadpool is the new face of the , so including Colossus and his young apprentice could give the studio the opportunity to set up the unicorn-loving mercenary's new role in a smooth way. Giving them a big part would be the way to go. Still, hopefully, the people in charge of the project manage to reintroduce the mutant duo in a way that does service to what they represented in the first film and opens the door for a new story. What do you think?
