It's official: The Simpsons are headed to LEGO Land. While the series has pretty much tried its hand at every animation genre, this is perhaps the final frontier for America's (real) First Family. Longtime Simpsons director , confirmed the news via Twitter.

The reason: LEGO is introducing a licensed range of Simpsons memorabilia (read: toys) that will include Springfield monuments and our favourite characters. News broke that we can expect 16 Simpsons characters, including the family, Apu, Chief Wiggum, Moe, and Itchy and Scratchy. The Simpson House will also be on offer! Timed to celebrate the release next year, the show will air a special salute to LEGO in May 2014, either as a single episode or a separate television special, which seemed to work for the Yoda Chronicles, the Star Wars LEGO collaboration.

They can do what they want, but I'm holding out for The Homer.

Which piece of Simpsons history would you want in the LEGO collection?
