Avengers: Infinity War looks set to be the crowning glory of Phases 1-3 of the MCU, and fans are eagerly awaiting news. The key question, of course, is a simple one: who's in the film to begin with? With Infinity War set to pit the Avengers up against the cosmic threat of Thanos, fans had been expecting Marvel's other popular superhero team, the Guardians of the Galaxy, to make an appearance. Now, it seems, that's been confirmed!

Zoe Saldana Reveals Gamora's Involvement!

Over at the Golden Globes, Zoe Saldana confirmed that her character Gamora will make the jump from to Infinity War. She's not seen a copy of the script yet, which suggests that she won't be filming her scenes in the next few weeks, but she's definitely confident of her involvement. Where one Guardian goes, the others are sure to follow.

We already knew there was a strong possibility that the Guardians would turn up. An official casting call had mentioned several of the Guardians, including — significantly — Karen Gillan's Nebula. But that casting call hasn't been officially confirmed, so this is the first time we've heard for certain that the Guardians will be making their presence felt in this epic.

How Will the Guardians Be Handled?

Until now, of course, the Guardians have only really been associated with director . But, in a later interview with IGN, Saldana expressed complete confidence in the Russo brothers.

"The good thing that keeps me relaxed is that these directors are good. They have a really good pedigree. Their last movie, I liked it. I liked their choices. And everyone that worked with them had a really great experience. And James Gunn is a producer on it, so I know that he won't ever let the integrity of what he's created for the Guardians ever be compromised. So I'm at ease. Plus I love the Marvel producers. They're all great, they all want us to win."

As she notes, the Russo brothers have a tremendous pedigree — not least with . When Joss Whedon left the MCU after Avengers: Age of Ultron, it fell to the Russo brothers to step up to the task. They proved their skill in fan-favorite Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Captain America: Civil War demonstrated that they can handle juggling a large cast with ease. That's definitely a bonus for Infinity War, which is sure to feature more characters than any other movie in superhero history.

How Will the Guardians Get Involved?

Infinity War is, in a sense, one of Marvel's strangest projects. We're yet to be given official casting information — even with the film about to start shooting! With so much mystery surrounding the project, it's hard to speculate about how the Guardians will play into the story. That said, the first film clearly established strong connections between the Guardians and Thanos, and Vol. 2 will only strengthen those ties — Karen Gillan's Nebula is joining the team. So it shouldn't be too hard to come up with a plausible plot to bring them in.

Perhaps the most intriguing thing is, though, that I've heard rumors that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will feature a direct lead-in to Infinity War. It could be subtle plot-elements — or it could be a dramatic end-credits scene in which Peter Quill's Star-Lord is told his homeworld is under attack! As yet, we have no way of knowing, but should these rumors be true, we may soon get a strong sense of just how the Guardians get involved.

For now, though, one thing's for certain: the Guardians of the Galaxy are finally confirmed for Avengers: Infinity War. With this movie pitting the Avengers against one of the galaxy's most powerful threats, my bet is they'll be glad of the help!
