What do you do when you have no new ideas for a TV series? Duh, you take a movie and adapt it for the small screen.

Following the likes of Hannibal, Psycho (Bates Motel) and Scream, which have all made their way from the theater to our TV screens, the -starring crime drama Cop Land is also getting its own remake, Deadline is reporting.

The 1997 movie, written and directed by The Wolverine's , followed a suburban New Jersey sheriff who slowly discovered that his town was a front for mob connections and corruption. Mangold will be back to executive produce the series and pen the pilot episode with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and In Treatement writer .

The original featured a heavy cast of names including Sly, , , , and ; going on nothing but a hunch, I'd say it's likely that none of these big-shots will be back to reprise their roles for the small-screen incarnation... Let's hope I'm wrong.

Nevertheless, I'm remaining cautiously optimistic about this adaptation. Watching the movie, it doesn't seem like something that would translate well to TV, but when the plot is paired down to the description above, it seems like it could work. I'll be curious to see how the casting plays out...
