Warner Bros. Man of Steel swooped into theaters last weekend and proceeded to break all kinds of box office records. It raked in a massive $116.6 million, making it the highest weekend gross for the month of June and the second highest gross for a non sequel behind The Hunger Games. Those are the sorts of figures that make a sequel inevitable and the studio are already working on the second outing for Supes. What might come as a surprise though, is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is apparently being fast tracked for release as early as next year, with a Justice League Part One movie tentatively planned for 2015. The Wall Street Journal broke the story, reporting:

Warner is already in development on a sequel to "Man of Steel" and is expected to fast track that for release as soon as 2014, said knowledgeable people close to the studio. In addition, it has long been developing a "Justice League" team-up movie featuring characters such as the Flash and Wonder Woman that could come out as soon as 2015.

Holy Kryptonite! Unless the studio has already got a script in place and is ready to start shooting I would be very surprised to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2014, especially as is reportedly set to start work on The Man From U.N.C.L.E..

For now I would take this news with a large dollop of salt, at least until we hear something official from Warner Bros. However, with the San Diego Comic-Con just around the corner, we could be getting a Super update soon.

Do you think we will be getting Man of Steel 2 in 2014? Drop your thoughts in the comment section below.
