I'm a good bowler, and a good man.

So, the big question is: will and director of the Supremacy and Ultimatum entries, , be returning to the Bourne series?

Well, it's a rapidly developing story. And the picture right pretty darn muddled. At one point, it seemed likely. Then, it's been kabooshed. Who knows what to think!

Keep reading for my dissection of the rumors of the last few days:

The rumor that Damon is being courted to return for the fifth entry in the Bourne series has been circulating for months, but gained traction in recent days by a Twitch report claiming that Universal is desperate for Damon to return in Bourne 5. D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E. It's been suggested they've been working very very hard to court Damon to make a comeback, but it's dependent on one condition: that , the director of the 2nd and 3rd entries, returns as well.

It's all very understandable. The Bourne Legacy, which introduced into the fold, hardly entered into flopsville territory. However, in terms of franchise stalled just a lil' bit. 56% on Rotten Tomatoes and $276,144,750 in worldwide box-office hardly compares favorably to the 94% and $442,161,562 (and 3 Academy Awards to boot!) earned by The Bourne Ultimatum. That's not what we call franchise upward momentum, and if Universal want Bourne to run n' run (particularly in the face of a post-Skyfall resurgent James Bond), they have to make some changes.

So what would these changes be? Rumors suggested either a mashup of both Bourne's in one movie, or having two concurring separate Bourne movies. My opinions on those options? An unequivocal yes to the first one - with both sitting in the same timeline and the overriding goodwill left for Damon's Bourne, it's nothing less than a slum-dunk. The other idea? Absolutely not. With Damon's Bourne running about, would anybody actually watch the lesser cousin that is Renner's? A mashup sounds far more intriguing.

Anyway, hold your horses guys...

This was all potentially made moot by events hours later, when Variety, as per their official sources, reported that Universal have outright denied that they are courting Damon and Greengrass to return.

Of course, this may not be true. Film PR can work in mysterious ways. They may secretly be sourcing a new Bourne - who knows! So, we don't have to give up hope just yet - this mega-Bourne mashup could still come to fruition at some point.
