#Supergirl Season 2 has swooped onto our screens with an already clear premise: Alien refugees are living on Earth. But, there could be many more ways the series could turn. While many condemn Supergirl for having so many links and ties to #Superman's villains and storylines, she does have some places of her own for the writers to explore. With this article we will have a look at what the Girl of Steel could be set to face through this series of her show.
The Invasion Has Begun
During Season 1, a lone White Martian came to Earth after detecting J'onn J'onnzz, the last of the Green Martians. Supergirl obviously stopped the alien and it was locked up at the DEO. Even at the end of the season, when all the aliens were released under Non's orders, the White Martian remained detained due to its threat level. However, has the invasion already begun without anyone realizing?
The White Martians are shapeshifters like the Green Martians, and the end of the newest episode dropped a bombshell, revealing that the President is not human! Have the writers for the show pulled a Marvel-styled Secret Invasion storyline on Supergirl? This could indicate that the White Martians have already infiltrated Earth and are planning to take its forces down by replacing key figures with their agents. This would be a brilliant idea if it were true, as the White Martians are not linked to Superman, but to J'onn J'onnz and will help reduce the accusation of Supergirl using to many elements from Superman comics.
Forming A New JSA
While the Justice League is the big name everyone knows, could the JSA see a new formation in Supergirl? The #JSA from 1942 were introduced through the first two episodes of #LegendsOfTomorrow, consisting of Hourman, Commander Steel, Obsidian, Stargirl, Vixen and Doctor Mid-Nite. Supergirl currently holds several super-powered heroes within the show.
Supergirl, #MartianManhunter, Mon-El. Guardian is also set to arrive in the show, with James Olsen set to wear the gear, and Alex is simply missing a cowl to be a brilliant #Batgirl. Add to this characters from the #Arrowverse that are not main characters, and Supergirl has plenty to pull across to allow them to form a modern-day JSA. With the show being focused on Supergirl, it seems more fitting for her to help found the JSA, as her cousin is one of the founders for the Justice League.
Cyborg Superman Is Your Father
A big plot to be revealed is the fate of Jeremiah Danvers, Alex's father and Supergirl's foster father. We know he is being held captive at the hands of Cadmus and Supergirl, Alex and J'onn J'onnzz have vowed to find him and rescue him. However, is it too late for Jeremiah? During Episode 2, Alex came face to face with members of Cadmus. She was told by one of them to remember her father as he was. This indicates they have already carried out some experimentations on Jeremiah. This, while tragic for Supergirl and Alex, would be epic for #DC fans.
With #DeanCain having portrayed Superman from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, it would only add to the nostalgia already present in the show. This is one thing Supergirl is capitalizing on — the nostalgia of past DC ventures, including the latest, in which Lynda Carter (#WonderWoman 1975–1979) dropped the line:
Any fan would recognize as a reference to Wonder Woman's invisible jet.
Into The Future
Supergirl could head to the 30th century. While this may seem a little far-fetched for many, it actually does have a high chance of happening for numerous reason. The first being simple: The Legion of Superheroes is already established within the show. During Season 1, Supergirl visits Superman's Fortress of Solitude and clear for viewers to see is is a Legion Flight Ring on display.
Aside from this is the main character herself and one of the latest members of the show, Mon-El. Both have been members of the Legion of Superheroes in the comics. So, with this in mind, could the Legion appear before Supergirl, Mon-El, Martian Manhunter and Alex asking for their help? If this does turn out to be the case, it is likely to be at the end of the season. Mon-El feels more like a character set to appear for a single season, so his trip to the future could be where he finds his new home, while Supergirl returns to the present to be with her family she has on Earth.
What Are Your Thoughts?
With Supergirl now aligned in the same world as the rest of the Arrowverse, we can expect many surprises along the way. We know we will see Supergirl crossing over into #Arrow, #Flash and #LegendsOfTomorrow. We also know they are aiming to keep the lighthearted elements of the show with a planned musical episode. The question is: With the options available to them, which dark plot will Supergirl face during her second season?
