If you're a Star Wars fan, you have probably wielded a toy lightsaber once or twice in your life. (Or maybe a countless number of times into your current adulthood; we won't judge.) But the real thing apparently feels different in your hands.
That's according to Rey herself, Daisy Ridley, who spoke with Vogue about the difficulties that come along with lightsabers.
#DaisyRidley is featured in the newest edition of Vogue and went into detail about the extensive training necessary for her role as Rey in #TheLastJedi. As we saw in The Force Awakens, she didn't choose the weapon — the weapon chose her — and the latest trailer reveals more training for Rey. The actress had this to say about the labor involved and how wielding the #StarWars weapon is not as easy as it looks:
“They’re really heavy. Three, four, five kilos? And the weight’s very unevenly distributed. You do, like, eight thwacks one way, eight the other, eight up, eight down."
Ridley jokingly suggested that lightsaber training should be used as a form of exercise called "Lightsaber School," and all I can say is, where do I sign up?
If the countless interviews and media appearances didn't reveal Ridley as one of the most adorable and good-natured humans on earth, Vogue has also posted a video with the actress as part of their "73 questions" campaign. In the video, Ridley displays her strength training and her expert skills in lightsaber handling. She even raps! Watch it below:
Don't worry about any kind of intense spoilers for The Last Jedi; Ridley knows how to keep it tight-lipped. The Vogue interview did provide a slight hint that Rey's true family will be revealed but who knows what Star Wars considers as "true" — we may be waiting for Episode IX before we are given any solid revelations.
Does Rey find her full potential or is she being pulled to the dark side? Fans won't have to wait long to find out, as Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15.
