fans are in a bit of a frenzy right now with casting rumors bouncing around like Martha Wayne's pearls. First it seemed that had already found their in The 100 star Lindsey Morgan, now another actor has thrown in his name for a potential part in the . Dave Franco says he would play Dick Grayson, a.k.a if asked.

The shred of news comes from a brief interview at CinemaCon in which the actor discussed his role as Lloyd in The LEGO NINJAGO Movie. He was asked about whether or not he'd be interested in playing Dick Grayson in the Nightwing movie helmed by The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay. Franco said briefly:

"Absolutely. Again, it's one of those things where they can go to literally anybody so I'm here if they want me."

Is The Justice League 'Coming Together'?

Having stumbled along thus far, the DCEU is finally starting to swagger. The marketing for continues to impress and the hype for has never been higher following an explosive new trailer. On top of all that are the rumors that veteran is turning over to DC to write, direct, and produce the solo Batgirl outing.

With all that going on, it's easy to forget that DC has just come through its darkest hour, with doubt hanging over everything from Matt Reeves' project to Ben Affleck's role as the caped crusader himself.

Now it seems that Justice League is going to serve as a soft reboot for the franchise which remains a commercial success, but has yet to impress beyond a core fanbase. DC has failed to deliver on the promise of an excellent trailer before, so regardless of the reception of this latest look at the ensemble movie, it's likely that Warner Bros. will be exploring new directions in the various expanded properties to come.

Dave Franco might not be many fans' first choice to play the role given his comedic pedigree, but that might be just the sort of thing that DC needs right now. Ezra Miller's incarnation of Barry Allen is bringing some much needed humour to the DCEU, but he can't do it alone.

No Laughing Matter

It could also mean that Franco is transitioning from the pigeonhole of pure comedy into something more tangential. His inherent humor would be more than welcome in the DCEU, especially given the zany comedic prowess of the Nightwing director, but the role demands more than an innate sense of comedy.

This is a character that will have been through the ringer over the years, especially considering that the DCEU already has a storied history in place that includes the violent death of another boy wonder.

Dave Franco has the build and apparent athleticism to suit the character, and has shown enough moments of genuine heart throughout a variety of absurdly-endearing performances to prove that he's more than capable of stepping into the leotard of the beloved superhero.

This all hinges on the off-hand comments of an actor interested in playing a role in a film that isn't casting yet. Still, stranger things have happened...
