Warner Bros.'s Man of Steel opens in theaters this weekend and the future of the proposed Justice League Part One movie lies in its huge Kryptonian hands. Put simply, if Man of Steel fails to be a box office hit, the chances of a Justice League movie ever seeing the light of day are slim to none.

That hasn't stopped Man of Steel scribe making tentative plans for the superhero ensemble movie. In a fascinating interview with HeyYouGuys, Goyer admitted that he would like a Justice League movie to follow on directly from Man of Steel. He also dropped a Batman-sized bombshell; any potential Justice League movie would do away with 's iteration of the Dark Knight and would instead start with a "clean slate." Here's what Goyer had to say:

It would be disingenuous to say Warner Bros doesn't hope that this would be the starting point for a shared universe. And Zack has said that Bruce Wayne exists in this universe. It would be a different Bruce Wayne from Chris’ [Nolan] Dark Knight trilogy, and it would be disingenuous to say that Zack and I haven’t had various conversations on set, around ‘what if’ and ‘moving forward’. That having been said, it’s all going to depend on the next few weeks. Warner Bros has hopes that there will be more Man Of Steel films, and that this will be the beginning of a shared universe. We could meet Batman, or Wonder Woman, or the Justice League in these movies. But they all hinge on box office reception. If that happens, I would be happy, and nervous, to dive in.

That's a pretty big revelation. To be honest, I've been secretly praying to the gods of DC that Justice League would see 's Superman join forces with 's Batman. That dream looks to be in tatters now though.

At least we can take solace in the fact that Goyer and Snyder are even discussing a Justice League movie. It's now up to us fans to flock to the theaters and watch Man of Steel, because if it's a box office smash, we are one step closer to getting the superhero ensemble movie we all want.

The fate of Justice League is now in our hands.

I want to hear what you think about this. If Justice League is to get a new Batman, who would you like to see wear the cowl? Drop your suggestions in the comment section below.
