We recently learned that we're finally getting a standalone Batgirl movie, and better yet, it's going to be directed by Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron). The hype is real for the Barbara Gordon movie which has been a long time coming. Since we've already seen countless Batman movies, it's great to finally see Barbara Gordon stepping into the limelight. This announcement is no surprise, given that we've learned that Nightwing and Gotham City Sirens will each be given their own movie too. It's interesting to see DC branch out, and really try to catch up with Marvel in terms of creating a fun and massive Expanded Universe.
Just like #Batman and the Justice League, Batgirl has quite the rogues' gallery behind her, which could be well utilized in a Batgirl movie. Here are some of the biggest contenders for the villain we'll see taking Batgirl in her first solo outing.
Bonebreaker, a.k.a. Sally Sarasota, is a relatively new character in DC's roster, first appearing in 2012. Bonebreaker has a bit of a tragic story behind her, as she lost her twin daughters to a drunk driver. She resorted to chaining him to the rear bumper of her car, and driving around at 20 mph for half an hour until the police captured and detained her. When she got free of Arkham Asylum, she joined a twisted group of villains known as The Disgraced. This team was led by Knightfall and was comprised of Bleak Michael, Katharsis and Bonebreaker.
Bonebreaker could be great Batgirl movie villain purely because her undeniable, brute strength, which makes her stronger than Batgirl. Using this kind of villain always makes for good fights, like Bane in The Dark Knight Rises or The Winter Soldier in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If I was to put Bonebreaker in the Batgirl movie, I'd have her as more of a side-villain rather than the main antagonist.
Another villain I'd love to see introduced into the #DCEU is the iconic Clayface. He's a versatile villain who we haven't seen on the big-screen yet, and Batgirl would be a fantastic place to introduce him. Although Clayface is more of a Batman villain, I think Batgirl would be a great place to introduced, seeing as Batman has a lot on his plate with the Joker and Deadshot.
I'd love to see some of Clayface's shapeshifting brought to life using today's CGI techniques (although I'd hope for him to look better than Doomsday in Batman v Superman). Like Bonebreaker, I think Clayface would be best suited as a side-villain, just because I don't think he could hold up as the main antagonist in a DC movie.

3. Poison Ivy
Next on our list is one of the most iconic villains in the whole DC roster: Poison Ivy. Pamela Lillian Isley, a.k.a. Poison Ivy, has featured reguarly in DC Comics since her first appearance in 1966. Since then, Poison Ivy has starred in a Batman movie (Batman and Robin) and featured heavily in the critically-acclaimed Arkham video game series. She's also a major part in the hit non-canonical TV show, Gotham. I think it's time to wipe the slate clean after Batman and Robin, and bring back Poison Ivy in the way she deserves.
Ivy is primarily a Batman villain, but seeing as she's likely to appear in Gotham City Sirens, I think it could be cool to give her a full outing in this movie to really give some back story on one of DC's most intriguing villains to date.
4. Red Hood
Red Hood is another fantastic villain in DC's rogues' gallery who could be fantastically utillized in a live-action movie. I'd love to see Jason Todd's story materialize on the big screen so we can get one of DC's best ever storylines. We already know that there's a Nightwing movie on the way, which means Dick Grayson is present in the universe- but that doesn't quite explain Joker's graffiti on Robin's costume in Batman v Superman.
Will we see the infamous Batman: A Death in the Family unfold on the big screen? For those who might need a refresher, Death in the Family saw Jason Todd brutally beaten to the death by the Joker. Following his death, Todd rose again as the nefarious Red Hood — and I'm hoping he will turn up in Batgirl and give Barbara Gordon a real problem to deal with in her stand-alone movie.
5. The Joker
The Joker is arguably the greatest comic-book villain of all time, and we didn't really get a proper look in his first DCEU outing last year, Suicide Squad. Fans were bitterly disappointed at how little screen-time Jared Leto's Joker got in the villain team-up blockbuster. It's safe to say that we're definitely going to need to see more of Leto's Joker before we can form a proper opinion on his portrayal, and Batgirl would be a great place to start. It's quite likely that we'll see the Joker in the Birds of Prey movie, seeing as Harley Quinn will be one of the leading members of the team. But for Batgirl, I think it could be great to see the Joker as the mob-boss as he was established to be in Suicide Squad. On the other hand, how cool would it be to see the iconic, The Killing Joke, play out live-action in an R-Rated movie? Sure, it would be horrifically gruesome and very hard to watch, but it's something that's well within Jared Leto's Joker's capacity as an actor.
If I had it my way, I'd have Jared Leto's Joker as the main villain in the movie, and then maybe a cool introduction/side-plot with Poison Ivy (played by Jessica Chastain, of course). We may get one of these villains, but we also may get none of them! I'd love to hear your thoughts on Batgirl and the villains she needs to fight.
