The Death Wish remake has found a new director, with Variety reporting that is set to helm the revenge flick redux. (The Grey) has written the screenplay and was originally slated to direct but dropped out citing creative differences with Paramount-MGM.

Enter Naranjo, who is starting to build a name for himself on the Hollywood circuit and has a critical hit under his belt with his 2011 drug thriller Miss Bala garnering an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Like the original 1974 Death Wish, Miss Bala was also about someone pushed to the edge, this time a liberal architect bent on revenge after his family is attacked. Naranjo is also slated to direct in the survival drama The Mountains Between Us and is remaking the excellent Scandinavian crime show The Bridge for FX.

, and have all been linked for the lead in Death Wish and now that a director has been secured, progress on the movie should begin to speed up in the coming months.
