Arrow has had one hell of a season, redeeming itself by going back to its roots and becoming the show that it was in its first two seasons. Arrow Season 5 has been about exploring the theme of legacy, and how Oliver’s past choices affect those closest to him. The show has introduced one of Team Arrow’s most formidable adversaries in Prometheus, and Oliver is going to need all the help he can get to defeat him.
#Arrow EP Wendy Mericle recently stated that an unlikely ally was going to help Oliver defeat Prometheus in the Season 5 finale, and fans began speculating with who it could be. Thanks to a tweet by #StephenAmell, we now know that #Deathstroke/Slade Wilson is returning to Arrow, and he is probably going to be Oliver's ally.
Deathstroke Is Returning To Arrow
The tweet from Stephen Amell’s Twitter account shows Deathstroke’s helmet alone in the grass, and the photo is accompanied by the phrase: "Desperate times call for desperate measures." Amell tagged Manu Bennett in the post, and welcomed him back to the cast.

Not only is Deathstroke coming back, but based on the Amell's caption, he is going to be helping Oliver. Based on Arrow’s shooting schedule, Slade Wilson will probably appear in Season 5 finale, or an episode or two leading into it. We saw Deathstroke during the giant four-part "Heroes vs. Aliens" crossover extravaganza, but this is the first time we will see Manu Bennent back as Slade Wilson since Season 3 Episode 14.
Why Would Deathstroke Help Oliver?
We don’t know how Oliver is going to convince Slade Wilson to help Team Arrow, but Arrow EP Wendy Mericle had this to say regarding Oliver’s unlikely alliance:
"It’s going to be really emotional. It’s going to be all about Oliver’s family, but not the family we’re thinking of right now."
During Arrow Season 2, the flashbacks showed us the evolution of Slade Wilson and Oliver Queen’s relationship. They went from being complete strangers in Season 1 to becoming brothers who cared for each other. Their brotherhood was a large reason why Slade hated Oliver so much, because Slade thought Oliver betrayed him — he was also driven mad by the Mirakuru drug.
Now that Slade is drug-free, he might remember that Oliver was once like family to him, and that could give him the motivation needed to help Oliver defeat Prometheus. This ties into Mericle’s comments about family playing a big part in the alliance, and it also would be a huge emotional moment for Oliver and Slade.
We don’t know for sure how Oliver is going to take down #Prometheus, but with Deathstroke in his corner, he might stand a chance. It’s awesome that #ManuBennett is returning to Arrow, and it will be interesting to see how the final confrontation with Prometheus all plays out.
Make sure you catch Arrow when it returns from hiatus on April 26, 2017 on The CW.
