Fans of Valve video game Portal might have recognized the voice of GlaDOs in last month's trailer for 's sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim.. The director recently spoke to Movieweb, explaining that he got permission from Valve to use voice actress Ellen McLain for the trailer and that he's also a massive fan of the game. Del Toro revealed:
I wanted very much to have [McLain], because I'm a big Portal fan. But just as a wink. She's not cake-obsessed. She's not out to destroy humanity. I said, 'Look, there's no A.I. I'd rather have than GlaDOS.
It's nice to see the director give a nod to his favorite game and he once again confirms that he's the coolest geek in the world. Can we expect more GlaDOS in the movie then? Kind of. Del Toro explained:
The filter we're using is slightly less GLaDOS. Slightly. The one in the trailer I wanted to be full-on GlaDOS.
Even slightly less GlaDOS is better than no GlaDOS at all.
Want some more Pacific Rim stuff? Then check out the latest trailer, which gives us an extended look at the Jaegers kicking monster butt. Plus, the apocalypse is still very much cancelled:
This movie looks all kinds of awesome and I definitely wouldn't mess with , even if I were a giant, bridge-eating monster.
Pacific Rim hits theaters July 12th.
