Before hitting theaters, the DCEU team-up film Justice League went through a massive amount of reshoots. Although many fans were pleased with the theatrical cut of the film, some fans have wondered what it might have been like if Warner Bros. had stuck with their original ideas. Now, we may have a general idea of some of the footage left on the cutting room floor.
While many of the deleted scenes that have leaked — or that have been described — wouldn’t have a major impact on Justice League or the DCEU, there is one that might have.
Note: spoilers for Justice League follow.
Did Justice League Originally Feature Two Popular Green Lanterns?
First off, yes, the theatrical cut of Justice League did feature two Green Lanterns; however, they weren’t any characters that DC Comics fans are familiar with, and it was thousands of years in the past. Although it was awesome to see that the Green Lantern Corps exist in the DCEU, the flashback scene — which showed Steppenwolf fighting the armies of Earth — only gave us a glimpse of everyone’s favorite ring-wielding intergalactic police force.
According to a source on Reddit who claims to have inside information regarding Justice League, however, the film almost featured a post-credits scene featuring two very famous Green Lanterns, Tomar-Re and Kilowog. This would have been the second time Tomar-Re and Kilowog appeared in live-action, as both characters were featured in the poorly received DC film, Green Lantern, in 2011.
The Redditor, who goes by the handle LDN_Film and had previously leaked accurate information about Justice League, claims to have friends who worked on the film and posted the following regarding the supposed cut post credits scene:
"The original after credit scene that was shot in principal photography was Bruce being woken in the night in his lake house by a green light and being visited by Tomar Re and Kilowog. It was cut fairly early on during post"
Unfortunately, LDN_Film gave very little information regarding what Tomar-Re and Kilowog were doing other than paying a visit to Bruce Wayne. Some fans suspect that the two characters might have explained why a #GreenLantern wasn’t on Earth during Steppenwolf’s assault.
While it would have been great to see both characters — and maybe get an explanation as to where the Green Lantern of Sector 2814 had been — the post-credit scenes in the theatrical cut of Justice League were exceptional. Hopefully, the home release of Justice League will give fans more information regarding the Green Lantern Corps, but for now, we can rest assured knowing that they are out in space protecting the greater DCEU.
