Demi Lovato is celebrating a milestone that is arguably better than any Top 40 chart ranking. On Wednesday, the ex-Disney sweetheart took to Instagram to inform her fans that she is very proud to be sober for five years now.
Recalling the daily struggle not to relapse, the 24-year-old thanked her friends and family for always offering their support, saying:
"So grateful. It's been quite the journey. So many ups and downs. So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession. I'm so proud of myself but I couldn't have done it without my higher power (God), my family, friends, and everyone else who supported me. Feeling humbled and joyful today. Thank you guys for sticking by my side and believing in me."

Over the past few years, Demi has been very outspoken about her battles with substance and alcohol abuse. Just last May, she shared that at her worst, she was snorting cocaine on an hourly basis, describing herself as a "bitchy c-nt:"
"Prior to getting sober, I was one of those people who was like, I don’t give a fuck, whatever. And I used that as an excuse to do whatever I wanted. I was a nightmare to work with."
In 2010, she checked herself into rehab for three months and was officially diagnosed with bipolar disorder, paving out her gradual road to recovery by also moving into a sober living house. And now, with five years of sobriety under her belt, she's never felt better. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly recently, she shared:
"It feels amazing. All I’ve been doing is focusing on bettering myself. It’s been quite the journey, but it’s well worth it."
