Now, I know its name kind of sums it up, but the Die Hard franchise really does refuse to die. After what was generally seen as a fairly awful A Good Day to Die Hard, you might think John McClane would start dipping into his no doubt ample New York cop pension. But no, he's coming back for more.

has already suggested (rather bluntly) that there would be a Die Hard 6 and now we've got details, and, well... they're not looking good. Get this, the sixth installment of the Die Hard series will be entitled Die Hardest. Yep, that's right.

Now, perhaps, we're judging it too prematurely. Indeed, according to the potential screenwriter Ben Trebilcook, his take on Die Hard has a lot to look forward to. He said his script is "extremely faithful to the franchise and characters and is a natural progression. It's also a very plausible storyline."

Hmm, plausible? That doesn't sound very likely to me. In fact, according to IMDB, Trebilcook's spec script for Die Hardest featured John McClane battling terrorists with his daughter Lucy. Now, I suppose this is 'faithful' considering it seems to borrow the exact same central premise of A Good Day to Die Hard, which saw John McClane team up with his son, Jack. However, there is no official suggestion that this is the direction Die Hard 6 will go. According to Total Film, the new movie will start in New York before crossing over to Tokyo. Indeed, it still sounds like Trebilcook has some trouble persuading everyone he's the man for the job. He explained:

Getting Larry Webster's [consulting producer, A Good Day to Die Hard] support was great, but there are many hurdles to leap yet and two of those are called Bruce Willis and [producer] Alex Young. [There's] the possibility producers might go back and find some other source material to base the next one on, like they did with the first and second. Mine though, I feel it could be the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franchise.

So, it seems Die Hard will return again, but the exact nature of John McClane's next adventure is pretty open to debate. Why not add to that debate? Let me know below your thoughts on the continuation of the Die Hard franchise.
