When the Star Wars spin-off movies were first announced, it didn't take long for fans to start championing their personal favorite character for a standalone movie.
A few names were thrown around, but the runaway winner was surely everyone's favorite laconic bounty hunter, Boba Fett.
In fact, the enigmatic character is so popular among fans we kind of expected a Boba Fett Movie prior to any kind of confirmation from Lucasfilm or Disney. However, in a recent interview with AMC Movie Talk, Jon Schnepp (director of TV show Metalocalypse) has all but confirmed we can definitely expect a Boba Fett movie. When asked about the spin-offs, he replied:
One of them is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan.
Of course, Lawrence Kasdan sounds like the ideal choice to write the Boba Fett spin-off. After all, he's the guy who created Boba in The Empire Strikes Back and who then subsequently unceremoniously threw him into the Sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi.
Now, we should reiterate that this is all just still officially a rumor. We can't rely on anonymous sources to confirm things in Hollywood, and besides it's not entirely clear what Schnepp's relationship is with Lucasfilm or the renewed Star Wars projects. His previous work certainly provides him some serious geek credentials, but he definitely isn't or the Disney CEO. Of course, his source could potentially be someone very close to the production.
Basically, yes, get excited for the Boba Fett movie, but temper with excitement with a smidgen of cynicism.
What do you think? Is Boba Fett the perfect choice for a Star Wars spin-off? Who else would you like to see?
