When the topic of Disney princesses comes up (frankly, not that often in my daily experience), I usually feel obliged to provide full disclosure: not that big of a fan. Of course, as every child reared in 1990's suburbia, I've watched my fair share of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (atemporal classic) or The Little Mermaid; more often than not at school, always in keeping with the didactic values the Walt Disney Corporation has been so kind to altruistically instill in so many generations throughout past decades. Without getting into tiresome discussions about the perpetuation of gender roles or the questionable sexist subtexts found in the older films that are now much more apparent in adulthood, it's clear that, despite whatever legitimate criticism may be directed at some of Disney's 'princesses' (a misleading title, to be sure; many members of this so-called royalty hardly qualify as such), they are and will remain a staple of pop culture and positive role models for millions of kids.

Recognizing this fact, highly-talented artist Isaiah K. Stephens has decided to reimagine some of the most iconic female Disney protagonists, by playing an amusing identity-muddling visual game: with Halloween looming 'round the corner, he decided to portray the princesses dressed up as other, non-Disney famed heroines from popular culture. Thus, we get skilled renditions of Danaerys Targaryen, Wonder Woman or Lara Croft, to name a few, with the recognizable features of classic Disney leads such as Ariel, Mulan or Jasmine. On my side, kudos to Mr. Stephens for some great artwork infused with tons of creativity; on yours, I hope you enjoy these pictures and maybe, just maybe, fondly reminisce about a childhood were these young ladies were a pretty big freaking deal.
