Due to the strength of Hurricane Irma, Disney World has shut down its operations for two days for the first time in the amusement park's 46-year long history. The "happiest place on Earth" had no choice but to temporarily close its doors due to safety concerns because Irma is one of the strongest hurricanes the United States has seen in recent history, leaving would-be visitors stuck in their hotel rooms, unable to see the sights at Disney World.
But Category 5 storm or not, nothing was going to stop Disney World from making people happy with their stay. Despite the historically strong winds and rainfall, the staff at Disney World made it their mission to keep their guests' spirits up.
Disney World Made Sure There Was Hot Food For Everybody
One of the first things Disney did was slash the prices of all their food services. Since everyone had to hunker down and wait out the storm, Disney's decision to make the most basic commodities affordable was not only sensible, but generous as well.
They Even Brought In Disney Characters To Help!
To keep the guests (especially the children) entertained, the mascots of Disney World who are commonly seen on the amusement park's grounds visited the hotel. As seen in the pictures below, everyone had a fun time.
However, kids weren't the only ones who were having fun. The fan favorite mascots even made sure to keep their guests' pets entertained!
For those who weren't into hanging out with mascots, Disney made sure to keep guests busy with other activities, including arts and crafts and a few movie screenings.
As Hurricane Irma continue to rampage through Florida, it's good to know that the folks at Disney World have gone above and beyond to ensure that their guests are safe and that the park certainly hasn't forgotten what Disney World stands for.
