The dystopian sci-fi Divergent by director Neil Burger is still in post-production and is expected in theaters March 21, 2014. However, Lionsgate has already set the release date of its sequel, Insurgent, for a year later, March 20, 2015. With this date, the production of the next chapter should start this spring and the studio has to find a new director for the project quickly, because Burger isn't helming the sequel.
As Variety reports, will not direct Insurgent, the second chapter of Lionsgate’s upcoming young-adult franchise. Lionsgate has also announced Monday that the third film, The Divergent Series: Allegiant, will be released another year later on March 18, 2016.
Divergent is based on Veronica Roth’s futuristic novel of the same name. The story, (showing striking similarity with the Hunger Games), is set in a dystopian Chicago, where citizens are divided into one of five factions - the selfless, the peaceful, the honest, the brave and the intelligent. On a given day every 16-year-old have to select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. During her test, Beatrice Prior () discovers that she is Divergent - she shows equal aptitude for three of the factions - a very dangerous information that could cost her life. When she defects her selfish faction to the brave, her life takes a dramatic turn.

According to the site, the franchise is extremely important for Lionsgate, because they are working with full power on leading the young-adult genre with their subsidiary Summit brand. The Twilight saga have won the studio $3.3 billion worldwide and the first two Hunger Games have earned over $1.4 billion at the box office.
Searching for a new director is not an unknown quest for the studio, the original The Hunger Games helmer, , did not undertake the sequel either. directed The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, who is currently filming the two subsequent Mockingjay films for the Hunger Games franchise in Atlanta. The upcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 is scheduled for November 2014 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 for a year later, November 2015.
