Divergent, the movie based on the best selling YA series by Veronica Roth which has been described as "Hogwarts' sorting hat meets The Hunger Games in dystopian Chicago", will arrive in theaters on March 21. But, before we've even had time to sit down and consider how awesome it'll be watching Shailene Woodley pulling out all the sci-fi stops as young Tris, we've heard news that Insurgent is already on its way...
Insurgent is the second installment in the Divergent trilogy by Roth. It is the sequel to Divergent and is followed by the third and final installment of the series, The Divergent Series: Allegiant. And according to Variety, Insurgent will begin production in May - just two months after the release of the first film.
What's more, Shailene Woodley and Theo James are expected to reprise their roles from the original movie. OH DEAR GOD THE FEELS! Let's hope Miles Teller and Jai Courtney are on board somewhere, too.
As fans of the book well know, Divergent is set is a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five different factions that people are assigned to according to their personality. Tris Prior (Woodley) is told that she is an anomaly though. She is Divergent and will never fit neatly into one personality group. When she uncovers a conspiracy to purge all Divergents from society by violent means Tris is forced to undertake a mission to find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before her kind is brutally destroyed.
I wonder what's in store for Insurgent, then? Just try and finish Divergent and then I'll get on to the next two! Excited?
Don't forget - Divergent hits theaters on March 21!
