For some, the holidays are a season for spending quality time with your loved ones. If you're a fan of the BBC's long-running sci-fi series, Doctor Who, however, you know the real gift is enjoying another epic Christmas special.
At the 2016 New York Comic-Con showrunner Steven Moffat released the first look footage and title for this year's special: "The Return of Doctor Mysterio."
Check out the official trailer for "The Return of Doctor Mysterio" below.
The episode, written by Moffat, not only brings Peter Capaldi back into the TARDIS as The Doctor, but also features Matt Lucas reprising his role of Nardole from "The Husbands of River Song." In addition to the existing characters in the Whoniverse, "The Return of Doctor Mysterio" brings in newcomer Justin Chatwin (Shameless) with some type of superhero role.
Welcome Back Peter Capaldi!
After what's felt like forever off the air, I'm already excited seeing Capaldi step back into the role of The Doctor.
Doctor Who Gets The Superhero Treatment
Ok, I have a vague idea about what could be going on in this special. Earlier in the trailer we see the TARDIS flying over New York — probably on Christmas Eve — and The Doctor talking to a young boy in glasses and a robe.
Later, we see this clip in which Chatwin, also wearing a robe, hands The Doctor glasses and promptly disappears.
I think that the boy from the beginning of the trailer is a young version of Chatwin's character, who has superpowers. After all, we can see the boy taking flight. In his future timeline, we find that The Doctor inspired him to use his powers to fight crime.
"C" What's Going On Here?
I have no idea what that room is or who the people in those white suits are, but I don't think they're about to performa routine checkup.
The Return Of Nardole
I don't know what it is about Matt Lucas, but I can't get enough of him. Earlier this week, Christel Dee, YouTuber and Doctor Who superfan, revealed a few character details from her set visit.
"Nardole is quite different from your normal companion.""Most companions are, like, impressed by everything – and it’s not that Nardole’s not impressed – but what I like about him is he’s almost like an anti-companion. He’s kinda like ‘can we not? Doctor, don’t do that. No.’
An anti-companion, you say? I can get into that.
Is Nardole The Real Doctor?
Probably not, but wouldn't that be interesting?

Justin Chatwin's Full Costume
After dealing with ghosts, alien pirates, dinosaurs on a spaceship and Santa Claus, it only felt like a matter of time before The Doctor would encounter a superhero.
The insignia and costume of Chatwin's mysterious superhero role were also shared today.
What exactly does the "G" stand for? Let's take a look at the whole ensemble to try to get a better feel for his character's power.
Is anyone else getting very Chris O'Donnell Batman and Robin vibes from this costume? (Sans Batnipples, of course.) Or maybe Nightwing but with a cape? Either way, I can't wait to see him in action.
The Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Return of Doctor Mysterio," will air on Christmas Day.
