The mash-up of beloved writer and Doctor Who has always been a nerd match made in Heaven, with the writer even penning a few episodes of the long-running show, including 'The Doctor's Wife' and 'Nightmare in Silver', and set to write a few more episodes for the upcoming season.

The writer revealed an interesting tidbit on his Tumblr account yesterday during a mini Q&A session about as the Twelfth Doctor. He was asked if he felt there would ever be a time for a non-white Doctor, and revealed he thinks that the Thirteenth Doctor will head in that direction. In fact, the show is already starting to break with tradition:

Of course...I have no doubt there will be. (I know one black actor who was already offered the part of the Doctor, and who turned it down.) Just as there will be a female Doctor.

Interesting. There were rumors swirling for quite some time that either (Salt, Children of Men) or (Homeland) were solidly in the running for the role. But I'd place my bets on Pacific Rim star being the mystery actor, seeing as how he was heavily rumored to be in the running and has a career dance card far more full than the other two.

It's certainly something to think about. And though our Twelfth Doctor hasn't even taken over yet, it's not too late to speculate on where it might go with the Thirteenth, right? Will we see our first black Doctor? Or female? It's never too early for a Time Lord to plan ahead.
