The Bates Motel, the iconic building in Hitchcock's 1960 film Psycho, still stands in on the Universal Studios backlot fifty years on. It has been part of the studio tour for decades, and has been relocated a number of times to accommodate Universal's vast expansion.

However rumor has it that the house may be facing potential demolition. So much so that the guys at Bloody Disgusting have started a petition to save the house "for future generations". They argue that given the success of A&E’s Bates Motel you’d think Universal Studios Hollywood would be preserving one of their star attractions.

Though in my opinion the rumor is totally unfounded. The iconic house will probably be safe, though it will eventually just be relocated again. According to a statement made to the LA Times in 2010, NBC Universal talk in detail about their long-term evolution plan - “Wisteria Lane from Desperate Housewives and the iconic Psycho house would be relocated to other areas of the backlot.”

What do you guys think?

Bates Motel airs Mondays, 10 P.M. EST on A&E.
