Now that it feels like Marvel has dominated the Earth, they seem to be setting their sights on taking over the cosmos too. Of course, we already know about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but there also some tantalizing rumors that The Inhumans will also get a big screen adaptation.

The rumor comes courtesy of Bleeding Cool, who has apparently uncovered a new Marvel NOW! comic book series for The Inhumans. Just as the new Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series has been developed with an eye to tie in the film universe (Tony Stark makes an appearance, for example) it seems The Inhumans will get a similar treatment. The book is currently being penned by Matt Fraction, and is said to be closely modeled after HBO's Game of Thrones.

I know what you're thinking. What does a bunch of intergalactic aliens have to do with a Medieval epic? Well, The Inhumans also features a vast extended universe which includes many alien families vying for control, much like George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series. The Inhumans book will be based around the various families of the Inhuman Royal Family, including such dynasties as House of Medusa and House of Maximus. But that's not the only comparison which is being drawn. According to ComicBookMovie, The Inhumans are also being seen as Marvel's answer to the X-Men franchise.

Now, although X-Men originated in Marvel comics, the rights to the characters are owned by Fox. Back in 2011 Kevin Feige revealed that The Inhumans were being viewed in an "X-Men-style ensemble a la The Avengers". The movie was first mentioned along with a logline which reads:

The Inhumans are aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell agents to eventually call back their race to take over the planet. Ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don’t want to cause war.

Since this announcement, the possible Inhumans movie seems to have been forgotten, potentially in favor of other franchises such as Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the presence of this new comic book series might suggest it's being prepped to be resurrected, perhaps as part of Marvel's Phase 3. Of course, we're still very much in rumor territory, but it must be exciting for Marvel fans.
