It looks like Aquaman may have just made another enemy, as action star Dolph Lundgren has been cast in the upcoming #DCEU film in a villainous role. The actor will portray King Nereus of the aquatic kingdom of Xebel, who will claim Mera as his own and attempt to kill Aquaman.
A staple of Hollywood for the past four decades, Lundgren is of course best known for his roles as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, He-Man in Masters Of The Universe and Frank Castle in The Punisher, as well as for Sylvester Stallone's Expendables franchise in recent years. However, he is also no stranger to portraying comic-book villains, as he recently appeared as Konstantin Kovar on The CW's #Arrow.

Another Enemy For Aquaman?
It will certainly be interesting to see how big of a role Lundgren's character plays. While Nereus is undoubtedly a worthy rival of Aquaman's, the character is still relatively new — he made his debut in 2013's Aquaman #19 during the "Death of a King" arc. During his comic-book appearances, he has also been associated with Mera, claiming her as his own.
Moreover, with Aquaman's archenemy Black Manta as the likely big bad of the film, it makes us wonder just how much of a threat Nereus will pose.
Lundgren will join Jason Mamoa, Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Temuera Morrison, Willem Defoe and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the film, which will be directed by James Wan and is due to be released on 21 December 2018.
No matter how much of a role he plays, Lundgren will definitely be a great addition to the film. Furthermore, due to his intimidating physique, he will easily be a believable threat to the aquatic superhero. And I can't wait to see him in action!
