TV series with a supernatural or fantastic bent are a huge thing right now. A channel isn't a channel if it can't boast at least one or two flagship series featuring mythical monsters or a supernatural love affair. WGN America is getting in on the action with new series Salem, based on - you guessed it - the witches of Salem, Massachusetts.

WGN has dropped a new promo titled "Ropes", where the women of Salem aren't what they appear. Check it out:

"Salem" is set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts and explores what really fueled the town's infamous witch trials. The series will look to uncover the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. The witches featured are real, but they are not who or what they seem. What’s more, the drama, which centers on an epic romance wrapped around this explosive revelation, delivers a bold new vision of Salem -- and an even bolder new vision of witches.

Salem comes with a fairly impressive pedigree right out of the gate. (24, Terra Nova, Star Trek: TNG) and (The Haunting in Connecticut) are the brains behind the project, which went straight to series with 13 episodes. will direct and executive produce, while is set to star.

In case you missed the original, longer teaser promo for the series, here it is:
