During the World Animation and VFX Festival, Dreamworks unveiled that they were producing a brand new Rocky & Bullwinkle short film that will precede a theatrical release in 2014. Easy money is on Dreamworks' big screen version of Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which originally was a vignette housed within the classic Rocky & Bullwinkle Show. The short will feature (Spongebob Squareapants himself) as the voice of Bullwinkle and ninety-six-year-old will once again be voicing Rocket "Rocky" J. Squirrel. Foray received a lifetime achievement award at the festival for her eighty-three years worth of contributions to hte entertainment industry.

I love The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show, used to watch reruns on Nickelodeon when I was a sprat. And I do love that June Foray is still with us and able to continue to lend her talents to a character she helped create. However, Dreamworks is once again venturing into the realm of retro-fitting classic animation with an unflattering CG gloss. The background shots from the festival of the computer-animated Rocky & Bullwinkle look so awful I thought this was a joke at first.

It's also weird to me that Dreamworks won't just openly admit that the new Rocky & Bullwinkle short will precede Mr. Peabody & Sherman. What other film could they possibly connect it to?

What do you guys think?
