At five hours long, 's Nymphomaniac: Volume I is kind of a hard sell for many commercial outlets. Add to this that it's five hours of swelteringly graphic unsimulated sex, and it's a wonder that the movie's coming out at all. However, von Trier has given his blessing to a shorter, four hour cut of Nymphomaniac, despite not having coordinated - or even seen - this version of the movie himself.
The news regarding the slimmed down, four hour Nymphomaniac was shared by Filmmagasinet Ekko, hinting that von Trier's full, unadulterated five hour opus will be shown at Cannes Film Festival instead. No news as yet as to which version will be chosen for U.S. release, but it'd be a surprise if the more explicit option will get past censors.
What do you think about Nymphomaniac as a project? More amusingly, who would be the most awkward person you know to watch it with? Nymphomaniac is released in Denmark on Christmas Day.
