Update: Ed Sheeran has taken to Instagram to deny that the Game of Thrones reaction influenced his decision, explaining, “I came off Twitter Coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, had nothing to do with what people said about my game of thrones cameo, because I am in game of thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that. It’s clearly fuckin’ awesome. Timing was just a coincidence, but believe what you want.”

Earlier this month, Ed Sheeran revealed that he doesn't read anything on Twitter anymore. However, it seems that he has read some of tweets about his Game of Thrones cameo. Sheeran has deleted his Twitter account, apparently due to being mocked for the appearance.

Back in March, fans learned that had booked a guest spot on and that he would make an appearance sometime in Season 7. Little did we know that Sheeran would show up in the very first episode of the season. Sheeran played one of Lannisters' men, and Twitter had a lot to say. While some tweets were in support of Sheeran, many were far more negative:

Ed Sheeran might have left Twitter to stay away from all the internet trolls out there, but there are still millions of his fans who adore him. That being said, the showrunners didn't bring him on the show to impress Twitter; it was a gesture on their part to surprise Maisie Williams, who's a huge fan of Sheeran. Maybe she can talk him into coming back to social media?
