For many celebrity exes, running into a former flame on the red carpet would garner one of two responses: form a wall of ice as you glide past them, or pick up the nearest pap and prepare for battle. But not for #EmmaStone and #AndrewGarfield a.k.a. the friendliest exes currently on this planet. During this awards season alone, the former #celebrity couple have bumped into one another at numerous events and seem to have nothing but affection for one another. It's adorable and also kind of heartbreaking because they are so, so cute together. So cute it's almost irritating.
But when did they split up? And actually, when did they start dating in the first place? Join us as we take a trip down memory lane and retread the timeline of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone's lovely relationship.
The Amazing Spider-Bang
Fall 2010: It's announced that the pair will star together in The Amazing Spider-Man, with Andrew Garfield as the lead and Emma Stone playing, ironically, his love interest, Gwen Stacy.
Spring 2011: Fast forward a few months and they're now spending every day together, filming steamy scenes — such as the one above — and growing closer and closer as time goes by. It's around this time that they both split from their long-term partners: Stone from Kieran Culkin (yes, that happened) and Garfield from Shannon Woodward (who you'll know as Elsie in Westworld).
Summer 2011: The #SpiderMan promo tour begins and naturally, as they're freshly single and flitting around the globe together, the rumor mill starts a'churnin.
Winter 2011: Then in December this Saturday Night Live sketch happened and everyone started freaking out about their on-screen chemistry. Look:
Magic In Broad Daylight
Spring 2012: They're spotted making a PDA in NYC, so the illusion is over and worldwide "yayyyyys" ensue. Shortly after, they make their first public appearance as a couple at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
Summer 2012: The couple begin their worldwide press tour for The Amazing Spider-Man and cannot stop gazing at each other, they are completely pass-me-the-bucket smitten. The same summer they head to Disney Land for Garfield's birthday, a day he describes as "literally heaven" because they were blazed AF. Couple goals right there.
All of 2013: Is essentially spent doing coupley things, some charity work and filming The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Spring 2014: The promotional tour for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starts and the pair are closer than ever, hitting various red-carpet events together including the Met Ball (a.k.a. the best fashion event of the year) and the Magic in the Moonlight premiere.
Winter 2014/2015: Half a year later, however, they seem to be drifting apart. Stone is nominated for a number of awards including Best Supporting Actress for her work in Birdman, but Garfield is noticeably absent from both the Golden Globes and the Oscars. Queue sad faces and rumors, rumors, rumors.
Spring 2015: In April 2015, US Weekly reports that they've split, stating that Garfield "had been in a dark place for months." Wah!
Summer 2015: Then WAIT — Stone is spotted carrying a bag with "Andrew Garfield" written on it — what is going on?! Later, People Magazine reports that the pair have been spotted grabbing sushi together and doing a lil grocery shopping. Are they back together? Stone told the Wall Street Journal, after being bugged by a zillion paps:
"See, I never talk about this stuff for this exact reason — because it's all so speculative and baseless. Once you start responding — once you're like, 'No, that's not true' — then they're like, 'Well, if we push enough, we'll get a comment, so let's see what else we can make up.' I understand the interest in it completely because I've had it, too. But it's so special to me that it never feels good to talk about, so I just continually don't talk about it."
Fall 2015: So no, they're not. US Weekly reports their actual split, however the former couple offer no official statement.
Still In La La Love?
Fall 2016: It's now common knowledge that the pair are no longer a pair and back to being Emma and Andrew, separately. Describing her last 12 months to Vogue Magazine, Stone reports that, "It's been a good year. And sad. Pros and cons," adding that she still loves him "very much." Sob.
Winter 2016/2017: What's that I see, a little glimmer of hope on the horizon? In December, Garfield was asked by Rolling Stone Magazine which actor or actress he'd take with him on a desert island. He responded: "Emma Stone. I love Emma. She's all right. She can come." Oh staaaaahp it!
And if that weren't enough, over the last few months there have been multiple public meet ups due to their movies La La Land and Hacksaw Ridge being nominated for a bazillion awards. At each ceremony it would appear that they've actively sought each other out, and looked ecstatic every time. It's too much. Here they are at the pre-BAFTA party. Doesn't your heart just melt?
And, knowing them, there will probably be an adorable Oscars moment too — watch this space!
