shed some light on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in a recent interview with Cineplex Magazine (via Geek Tyrant), praising the movie's script and teasing some more heroic antics from Gwen Stacey in the sequel.
With the recent, often cryptic images being sent out by director about the Spidey sequel, it's good to get some first hand opinions about the upcoming movie. Stone said:
I'm in it, Andrew is in it, they just cast as Harry Osborn, who is such a great actor. And as Mary Jane, who's also wonderful. So there's all that and the script is very, very good. I'm very much looking forward to it.
Of course, Woodley debuted in set photos earlier this week as Mary Jane Watson, and has already been the subject of a lot of heated debate, with many fans feeling she was miscast while others essentially point to her work in The Descendants to argue that she shouldn't be underestimated.
Nevertheless, Webb more than proved he knew what he was doing with The Amazing Spider-Man, so have faith. Stone agrees:
I'm very happy that our first one was received so well, it'll be cool in the next one to see how Gwen and Peter bridge that distance that was between us at the end of it. I think the way it all unfolds is pretty neat. And I hope they continue letting Gwen be heroic, I think they might!
The "heroic" reference is an important hint for those of us who are fans of the spunky Stone, and who are hoping for a little more action on her end in the sequel. When it came time for her to get in on The Amazing Spider-Man action, she mostly left all that to her super-powered boyfriend - a rational decision, sure, but maybe not the most fun for a girl who we know could probably throw a punch or two of her own. I wonder what's in store...
We've yet to see any set photos of Stone on the set of the movie, so here's hoping that changes soon. We'll certainly be hearing a lot more on old Webhead's next outing over the next few months.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 releases May 2, 2014.
