Time and time again, Emma Watson has proven herself to be the epitome of a good role model. And recently, she discussed how her most famous on-screen heroine specifically measures up against a number of wonderful women from the entertainment world.
Alongside a slew of strong female characters such as Princess Leia, Katniss, Black Widow, Wonder Woman and Ripley, the actress said that #HarryPotter witch Hermione Granger was also deserving of such an honor. In particular, the #BeautyAndTheBeast starlet explored the powerful impact the fearless Hogwarts student has had on us all.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said she hoped that Hermione would continue to inspire young women all over the world just as much as the fantastic females from other franchises do. Here were her reasons:
"Hermione was that perfect example of turning on its head this initial prejudice that she gets. Hermione finds a way to wield her intelligence and become really the leader in this group of two other boys and that’s kind of the role that she assumes."
She then continued:
"Harry is much more intuitive. Ron is just along for the ride. Hermione is the one with the plan. She’s in control."

For Emma, the strength of Hermione's influence is that she nobody's side-kick and she gives women permission to also feel that way. Alongside her best friends Ron Weasley and Harry Potter, she is an equal and treated with considerable respect. She said:
"What is so fundamentally beautiful about Hermione is her loyalty to that group of friends. She’s really the glue that keeps that trio together. It’s fundamental, and the boys knew it, and they really treat her as if they know that."
'We need to live in a culture that values and respects women'
However, for #EmmaWatson, the appeal isn't only restricted to girls. In fact, she hopes that female heroines like Hermione Granger can attract the admiration of boys too:
"If I asked a young boy what superhero they looked up to, I feel a lot fewer would say a female one than in reverse, which is a shame because I feel like we need to live in a culture that values and respects and looks up to and idolizes women as much as men. I think that’s starting to slowly change, but it is something that does actively need to be addressed."
This isn't the first time that the 26-year-old has used her influence and star power to empower women and spread awareness regarding gender issues. For quite some time now, the actress has been spearheading the United Nation's HeForShe movement, which greatly supports the feminist movement, as well opening up essential discourses among men.
