While D23 yielded discouragingly little info on ' upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens, that doesn't mean rumors aren't still circulating. One recent rumor involved the possible return of actor . McDiarmid played the sinister Emperor Palpatine in the original Star Wars trilogy as well as Chancellor Palpatine in the prequels. Given that The Emperor, and I don't think this qualifies as spoiler now, is killed at the end of Return of the Jedi and given that Episode VII takes place after Jedi, this rumor caused completely understandable confusion.

Now, Latino-Review is sharing new details from their reported source that could shed some light on the situation. Evidently, Palpatine will be returning as a force ghost, much like Obi-Wan in the original trilogy. There was some talk of his returning as a clone, but that isn't what the latest source is attesting. In addition, it has been leaked that Palpatine took on a new apprentice before his death, or at least that will be worked into the new story.

I don't see the need to bring Palpatine back at all, but I am way more on board with the force ghost angle than the clone alternative. My guess is that Palpatine will use his ghostly resurgence to mentor this mysterious new apprentice.

What do you guys think?
