Avengers: Infinity War is meant to be the culmination of the Infinity Gauntlet storyline that started with Iron Man back in 2008. The MCU has set up new and powerful characters like Ant-Man, The Wasp, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther, which we believed would be essential to fighting off Thanos once he came knocking. Unfortunately, it seems we won't be seeing Wasp sting the Mad Titan any time soon.

Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope Van Dyne in the MCU, sat down with Blastr for an interview, in which she was asked about the state of the highly-anticipated Ant-Man and The Wasp. Here's what she said:

Right now, so an initial script has been created but it has not been approved by the higher powers that be, by "the Feiges." So, I haven't seen it yet, I haven't actually seen the script. I have talked to Peyton [Reed] about where they're heading and what they want to focus on. I'm excited because it's essentially going to be the origin of The Wasp, of course we're gonna see The Wasp for the first time take on the mantle and put on the suit and fly about and do her thing."

She followed that answer with this surprising statement:

"And then, following that one, there's an Avengers series coming out, that's a two-parter and, um, The Wasp won't be in the first part, she'll be in the second part, because they really want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man and The Wasp, so that they can give it its due time."

Her comments are incredibly surprising because of how she describes Avengers 3 and 4 as a two-part event. A few months ago, the Russo Brothers announced that Infinity War would no longer be two movies and instead just one, with the plot of the fourth one remaining a mystery. Could it be that Avengers 4 directly deals with the Thanos aftermath? The specifics of Evangeline's shocking revelation has me wondering something:

How Will Her Introduction To The Avengers Be Handled?

Like I said before, Infinity War will be the culmination of the decade-long MCU's main storyline, and, evidently, of the current team of Avengers. This was confirmed by Kevin Feige back in October of last year:

“I think it definitely is an end to some version of the team that we’ve come to know as The Avengers. Who knows exactly what is going to happen yet in that film, but I think this version of that team – and I think we start to hint at it at the end of Age of Ultron – will be evolving.”

Now, we know that Avengers 4 will tackle a brand-new storyline with a brand-new team of superheroes, so will The Wasp be part of the new team of Avengers or a separate entity? In Age of Ultron, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were first introduced as villains and Wanda didn't become a part of the team until the very last scene. So how will her entrance to the team be tackled?

Will we see Wasp start off with the Avengers after the events of Infinity War or will she play along with the team of new heroes throughout the plot and officially join them until the end of the movie? With what Kevin Feige said about the new members of the team, it's possible that Avengers 4 deals from the beginning with a very different group of heroes. That opens the possibility of Wasp being an Avenger from the start.

Another possibility is that Avengers 4 is about the new team of heroes coming together, similar to what happened in the first Avengers. But, whatever ends up happening with the plot, I'm crossing my fingers for The Wasp to finally take her place in The Avengers.
