In a few weeks iZombie fans will finally get to feast their eyes upon Season 3. On April 4th we'll finally get to see if zombies are going to go public, what's happening with the love triangle between Peyton, Blaine and Ravi, and if dreams really do come true. We will see some kind of zombie Rob Thomas fronting Matchbox Twenty.
I was fortunate enough to attend the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention this year where I got to sit in on a panel and hear what fans can expect from a Season 3, and I also got to speak one on one with Malcolm Goodwin to see what might be going on with Detective Babineaux in this upcoming season.
According to Aly Michalka and Malcolm Goodwin, the best episode of iZombie will be happening midseason of Season 3. The subject matter? #DungeonsandDragons of course. It sounds like Liv might be getting herself some Dungeon master brains. We found out last season that Clive is a really huge Game of Thrones fan, so it'll be interesting to see if this is another layer of Clive's nerd fandom. When can fans expect to see this episode? Aly mentions in the panel that she believes that it's around Episode 6, so fans won't have to wait too long to see the gang roll the twenty-sided die.
I also got to speak with Malcolm about everything from directing to what would be on Clive's Netflix List.
Movie Pilot: You have some experience in directing. Is there any chance you'll be directing any episodes of iZombie?
Malcolm Goodwin: It's been talked about. Not officially, but the cast know I direct, so yeah, possibly. I may possibly direct an episode in the future. Rose [McIver] wants to direct an episode, Rahul [Kohli] would be great, so I think so hopefully.
Movie Pilot: Last season we got to learn a little more about Clive and his interests. Is there anything we're going to learn more about him this season?
Malcolm Goodwin: We do, and very, very early in the season, and how actually Clive was more connected to the zombie universe than he really knew, and you find that out through a crazy turn of events that happened years ago in his past.
Movie Pilot: Now that Season 3 is a wrap, are there any new projects you're working on?
Malcolm Goodwin: I'm starring in a movie, we just got Lou Ferrigno on board, so I was excited about that. I've been friends with him and his family for years, so we've been trying to find a project we could work together, not actively. But if there was something that came along that made sense, and this one did. I'm really, really excited about it.
Movie Pilot: Could you tell us a little bit of what it's about?
Malcolm Goodwin: It's a simple story, it's called Ring Ring, and it's about this guy who's trying to find his cell phone. His cell phone was stolen, and him and his friend are trying to track it down, and so it's this thriller and this comedic turn of events that they go through to get his cell phone back.
Movie Pilot: I look forward to seeing that. Our website is all about creating a space for passionate fans to talk about the fandoms they love. Most people are always looking for new shows to watch, so what some shows that you love, or what are your Netflix recommendations?
Malcolm Goodwin: [Laughs] iZombie, definitely watch our show. If you miss it on Tuesday, I'm hearing you can watch it the very next day on Netflix. Outside of iZombie and other CW shows, I would say one of my favorite shows growing up was 24. So find a way to binge watch 24. I also have a movie I directed called A True Story Based on Things That Never Actually Happened, and Some That Did. It's a long title that was adapted from a play that did really well in LA. House of Cards, that's a good one. Walking Dead obviously check that out.
Movie Pilot: All very good choices. What do you think would be in Clive's Netflix List?
Malcolm Goodwin: He would say Game of Thrones, but you can't get Game of Thrones on Netflix.
Movie Pilot: I'm sure he has HBONow to keep up with it.
Malcolm Goodwin: [Laughs] Yeah, he definitely has HBONow, so he would definitely say Game of Thrones. I think Clive would also say Clerks, I think he would like Clerks.
You can check out the iZombie Q&A panel video below to hear some fun topics of conversation, like how the brains on the show are made of gelatin, Malcolm's master skills at Street Fighter, some shenanigans behind the scenes, and which Powerpuff Girl Aly identifies as.
Make sure to tune into the third season of #iZombie on April 4th, and each episode will be hitting Netflix the day after it airs on the CW.
