Universal Pictures is going green with an adaptation of Wicked, even though it hasn't been greenlit. Adam Fogelson told The Hollywood Reporter this:

Wicked has been an enormous win for this company. The way it works, we should be in agreement together on when the right time to do this is, but I will tell you I believe that we are collectively moving toward Wicked coming to the screen sooner rather than later.

For those living under a Great White Way rock, Wicked is a prequel to the days of Dorothy, in which Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. There were rumors that Billy Elliot's director, , was going to do the project. However, there haven't been any updates on if he's still been pegged for the project. Likewise, original Glinda, Kristen Chenoweth, has talked about how she would love to be a part of the project.

I think this one will be on an even faster track if Oz The Great and Powerful makes a killing at the box office. But I can't help but wonder, what about all of L. Frank Baum's original Oz stories. Surely, there's still material there to navigate and create an awesome movie out of, as opposed to adapting hit musicals. Still, seeing this on the big screen would be huge for anyone who wants to take a trip somewhere over the rainbow.
