According to Collider, Michael Biehn and Sigourney Weaver are set to reprise their roles as Corporal Hicks and Lt. Ellen Ripley in Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5. Due to Ridley Scott's Prometheus prequel series, this continuation is on hold, but Biehn says the wheels are in motion in terms of casting. He says that the main child character of 1986’s Aliens, Newt, will rejoin them on their journey for the new movie. Don't expect original actress Carrie Henn, to reprise her role as she is currently retired. In that case, the studio will need to recast the character.
This tells us a few things: They seem to be adding 20 years to whatever age Newt was at the time of the Aliens release, making her somewhere between 25 to 30 years old. They also have no plans to acknowledge Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection as cannon.
From the looks of it, it seems like Biehn has someone in mind to take the role.
There’s going to be a new Newt, she’s going to be about 26 or 27 and looks a lot like Jennifer Lawrence to me but I don’t know” Biehn tells Forbes. “Maybe there’ll be a passing of whatever and then the franchise can move on so they can make more money because that’s what it’s all about.
While JLaw makes an interesting casting choice, some speculate that as an A-list actress she may be "above" these types of films. Who knows, maybe she might be interested after all.
However, there are many other capable actresses in Hollywood who can fit right in with the Alien crew. Let me know what you think of this list.
5. Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie has solidified her place in superhero movie history. She’s taken on the coveted role of one of DC comics most infamous antiheroes, Harley Quinn. But it doesn’t stop there. Warner Bros. studios announced in May, 2016 that Robbie plans to produce an all-female DC/WB superhero film, which may feature characters such as Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Batgirl.
Why She Is A Good Choice: This would be a great chance for Robbie to step outside of her sexy-girl comfort zone and give us the gritty, dirty, Ellen Ripley protégée we have been waiting for since the release of Aliens.
4. Abbey Lee Kershaw
She made her mark as "The Dag" in Mad Max: Fury Road. Then starred as a fashion model in director Nicolas Winding Refn's, The Neon Demon. In 2017, she will co-star alongside Idris Elba in the film adaptation of the Stephen King novel, The Dark Tower. With these major movie titles under her belt, it’s obvious she can hold her own among all that star power.
Why She Is A Good Choice: Usually cast in dark, or villainous roles, the Australian actress would fit in nicely with the Alien cast as she hasn't ventured into the sci-fi genre yet, and Newt would add to her prestigious resume.
3. Teresa Palmer
Palmer has gone under Hollywood's radar for some time, but 2016 looks to be a good year for the Australian beauty. She has three indie films on the horizon, Message From The King, Berlin Syndrome, and 2:22. She's definitely shown she is talented and has an eye for choosing roles in horror films, which would make her a good fit for a film of this caliber.
Why She Is A Good Choice: As a relative unknown, this would be a good opportunity to make her a star. Also, I like to root for the underdog.
2. Cara Delevingne
Supermodel Cara Delevingne has gone all-in with her acting career as she has managed to land some huge acting gigs. One with DC/Warner Brothers as the Enchantress in the live-action Suicide Squad film, and another with director Luc Besson's in Valerian: City of 1,000 Planets. She is very serious about acting, and so far, she is choosing great roles to show off her acting range.
Why She Is A Good Choice: Being cast in a Luc Besson film is no small feat. He chooses some pretty strong actresses to star in his action films. If that’s the case, then Delevingne should be able to hold her own up against the Xenomorphs.
1. Juno Temple
Juno Temple is funny, smart, and fearless. She's a well-rounded actress having done comedy, drama, and voice work, Temple would add an interesting and new dynamic to the Alien franchise. She is also the right age for the part and is missing science fiction from her resume.
Why She Is A Good Choice: To me, Temple looks like an older version of Newt. Also, she's grossly underrated as an actress, and a role like this would help elevate her status in Hollywood.
